Poster Contest

Posters for the 2008 contest will feature
the theme "Water Is Life". Some ideas related to
the theme might include water in your everyday life, the water cycle,
groundwater, sources of drinking water, amount of water on Earth,
watersheds, stormwater runoff, drought, flooding, water used to grow
food.
How To Enter:
* Create your poster according
to the contest rules
* Fill in the
entry form and attached to the back of your poster
* Submit poster to your local SWCD office

Contest Awards:
There are 9 regions in the state, each region will
have one winner for each of the 5 divisions. Regional winners receive
$35 and will compete in their division for the state prize of an
additional $50.
State winners will be displayed at the 2008 Annual Conference for
Conservation Districts of Iowa. State winners will then be sent to the
National poster competition and will be displayed at the 2009 National
Convention of Conservation Districts.
Poster Contest
Rules:
1) The contest is open to all students
who are residents of the state of Iowa.
Division
1 - grades K and 1
Division 2 - grades 2 and 3
Division 3 - grades 4 through
6
Division 4 - grades 7 through
9
Division 5 - grades 10
through 12
2) The poster should be made on regular
poster paper with the size 8.5" x 11" up to 22" x
28" only. Students may use any medium such as paint, magic marker,
pencil, cut and paste, crayon or whatever inspires the student. No
three-dimensional effects please.
3) Each poster will be created and
constructed by the competing student.
4) Each poster must have a completed
entry form attached to the back of the poster.
5) Posters should remain flat when
submitted for judging.
6) The posters will be judged on entry's
conservation message (50pt.), visual effectiveness (30pt.), universal
appeal (10pt.) and originality (10pt.).
7) The state winning posters will be
displayed during the 2008 Annual Conference for Conservation Districts
of Iowa.
8) The five state winning posters
will be submitted to the national competition with those awards to be
presented at the convention of the National Association of Conservation
Districts in 2009.
